Denis Karp – Flute

A native of Baltimore, Denis Karp began studying flute at the age of 6 at the Peabody Preparatory.  In 1989, he performed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and James Galway on a two-week East Coast tour, playing John Corigliano’s “Pied Piper Fantasy.”  He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music from Towson University, where he studied with Sara Nichols.  He frequently records in studio as a member of The Washington Winds and is an active freelancer throughout the Maryland/D.C. area.  Mr. Karp is the flutist in The Charm City Winds and The Gallery Winds woodwind quintets.  He is the co-founder and co-director of The Gallery Winds Chamber Music Sumer Camp and has served as a chamber music coach for the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra.  Mr. Karp teaches private flute lessons through a private studio, Prince George’s Community College, and the Baltimore School for the Arts TWIGS program, which provides free music lessons to Baltimore City students.  Mr. Karp frequently performs at conventions and judges competitions and festivals throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
